An Open Letter to my Attorney-Client

Dear Mr. or Ms. or Attorney:

Did you know at year-end that it’s a great time to make a change to a better law firm software?

Okay, I get it. But this is not an annual process. Yes, I have seen attorneys change their software annually. Most of the time, they are looking for that “perfect” software. Guess what? That does not exist. All legal software has its shortcomings. Don’t get me wrong, some are amazing! Some are incredible because they pair well with the accounting software. Here is my list to show you what works best:

1. LeanLaw and QuickBooks Online Advanced #1 Choice for me. I partnered with Receipt Bank (thanks to my business partner, Sarah Prevost) and Liscio. We have automation, security, and so much more.

2. Clio and Xero. Now, I am not in the Xero camp, but so many are. Clio is a powerful tool that has been the #1 attorney software for awhile. Hubdoc is part of the Xero family, so you don’t have to pay more for receipt capture software. But sorry, Xero lovers, QuickBooks Online Advanced, hands down, is more robust. But again, what are your needs?

3. I am investigating Lawcus, so I wanted to add it here. I have not put a customer in it yet, but it is pretty cool.

But back to my letter…

Dear Attorney: Don’t be what we call a “switcher.” Find an expert and choose the software that works best for you.

Questions to ask yourself as we slide into 2021:

Are you using a server and antiquated desktop software? Why?
Are you still buying tons of paper and printing everything? Again why? Save a tree!
Did you know that there is automation out there? Just because your old desktop program still works (but is no longer supported) doesn’t mean you should stay. Automation saves time -- saves clicks, and best of all, is accurate.
Are you still creating manual spreadsheets for your trust account? Did you know you don’t have to?

I know this may read that I am scolding you. Some people are resistant to change. It may be expensive, but it is worth it. Automation and technology are incredible. If you are sitting with a nice profit on your books right now, maybe today is the time to reach out to us, and we can help you make that move.
